A New Program Has Surpassed ‘Bridgerton’ To Become Netflix’s Most Popular Scripted Show In 2021

Back on March 8, 2021, Bridgerton saw its final appearance on the Top 10 list. In total, that amounted to 64 showings on Netflix’s

daily popularity charts, which resulted in 438 total points for the year (read more about the Netflix points system here). At the time Bridgerton exited the Top 10 charts, it didn’t seem like any other scripted program would be able to catch up in 2021.

And that has largely remained true—up until this past week, that is. Because while a viral children’s program like CoComelon was able to officially capture the #1 position on Netflix’s popularity charts for 2021, no other live action show has come very close. But over the past couple days, Ginny & Georgia was finally able to accrue the last few points it needed to just eclipse Bridgerton’s yearly total.

That means Ginny & Georgia now officially stands as the most popular traditional scripted series to hit Netflix so far in 2021. In total, the mother-daughter dramedy owns 441 points, which just barely outperforms Bridgerton.

Of course, Bridgerton’s run stretches back to Dec. 25, 2020, which means the Shonda Rhimes program’s lifetime total stands at 508 points—the third-most ever on Netflix. Meanwhile, Ginny & Georgia’s lifetime total of 441 points is good enough for sixth place on the all-time rankings.

Still, Ginny & Georgia has easily (and surprisingly) become the most popular new show on Netflix within the confines of 2021. The program has performed much better than many of Netflix’s stronghold original content, such as Cobra Kai (157 points), Behind Her Eyes (199 points) and Firefly Lane (238 points), as well as viral third-party shows, like iCarly (359 points) and Good Girls (181 points).

Today marked the first time Ginny & Georgia hasn’t appeared on the daily Top 10 charts since its February 24 premiere. That 58-day run is officially the sixth-best streak ever, outperforming Netflix juggernauts such as Ozark, Outer Banks and Tiger King.

Back on March 25, Ginny & Georgia claimed what just may be the most impressive Netflix record to date: the program surpassed Tiger King to own the longest #1 streak of any show in the history of the Top 10 with 29 consecutive days in first place.

Obviously, there’s no chance that Ginny & Georgia (or any program, for that matter) will be able to catch an unstoppable show like CoComelon, which just enjoyed its 87th consecutive appearance on the Top 10 list this year. But if Ginny & Georgia can manage to make its way back onto the daily Top 10 charts for just a few more days, then it can still move a little further up the all-time charts. Just ahead of Ginny & Georgia sits The Office in the fifth-place position (with 453 points) and Cobra Kai in fourth place (with 456 points).
