Congress Should Follow States’ Lead on Inclusive Economic Recovery – ITEP
President Joe Biden’s American Families and Jobs plans intend to “build back better” and create a more inclusive economy. To fully live up to this ideal, the final plan must include undocumented people and their families.
The president’s proposals have overwhelming public support, and polls show voters want to enact tax fairness measures to help fund investments in healthcare, education, childcare, housing and infrastructure. The American Families Plan (AFP) enhances two popular tax credits—the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC)—proposals that will dramatically reduce poverty and provide a meaningful economic boost to workers and families with children. Undocumented people are missing from these transformational policies.
