In recent days there seems to be a sharp jump in the number of people — some friends of mine — who say their Facebook account has been hacked.
So, if it’s happened to you, you are not alone. Statista.com, a multi-national provider of business and consumer data, estimates 16% of all Facebook accounts in 2020 were fake or duplicates.
In the most recent period, Statista.com says that Facebook removed almost 1.7 billion fake accounts, up from 1.5 billion fake accounts in the corresponding quarter in 2020.
This is more than just a nuisance because this scam has the strong potential for money loss, identity theft and future problems.
