The Queen’s Gambit had one heck of a year in 2020. Not only did the Anya Taylor-Joy program finish in first place in the monthly Top 10 rankings during November and in second place during December, but the chess drama also garnered 581 points in route to becoming Netflix’s NFLX second-most-popular program of the year.

So will The Queen’s Gambit slow down in 2021? Well, if the series’ new record is any indication, the answer is a resounding “no.”

The chess drama has started the first seven days of 2021 on the Top 10 charts. That marks the 11th consecutive seven-day streak for The Queen’s Gambit since its premiere back on Oct. 23, 2020.

In total? That brings The Queen’s Gambit’s Top 10 streak to 77 days. Which makes the Taylor-Johnson program the first scripted drama on Netflix to pull off such a streak.

The only other program that has eclipsed that number is CoComelon, which is currently in the midst of an epic 133-day streak on the Top 10. But that is an animated show that (much like other children’s content on Netflix) has extreme replay value.

Past CoComelon, the only other show to come even close to a 77-day streak was another animated program: Avatar: The Last Airbender.

After that, the streak rankings for non-animated scripted programs highlight just how incredible The Queen’s Gambit’s Netflix run has been:

  1. The Queen’s Gambit – 77 days
  2. Ozark – 57 days
  3. Schitt’s Creek – 51 days
  4. Outer Banks – 51 days
  5. The Crown – 39 days
  6. The Umbrella Academy – 43 days
  7. All American – 42 days
  8. Cobra Kai – 42 days
  9. Virgin River – 40 days
  10. Space Force – 34 days

As you can see, only three other shows—Ozark, Schitt’s Creek and Outer Banks—have even eclipsed 40-day streaks. That puts The Queen’s Gambit in a class that is entirely its own.

And the Taylor-Joy show isn’t done yet. Today, The Queen’s Gambit saw its lowest ranking to date on the Top 10 list for shows in the #8 position. But just a few days ago, the chess drama was still rocking the #4 slot. And the program has risen up and down the charts several times since its premiere date.

So will The Queen’s Gambit’s streak end anytime soon? Perhaps, perhaps not. But it may also be a very, very long time before we see another program come close to such an incredible Top 10 achievement.
