September jobs report: Economy added just 194,000 jobs, unemployment rate falls to 4.8 percent

Professional and business services, like architectural and engineering services, technical consulting services and computer systems designs was up 60,000 for the month. Retail added 56,000 jobs, particularly in clothing and merchandise stores, and building and garden supply outposts. Transportation and warehousing continued its growth — increasing by 47,000 jobs, making it notable as one of the sectors that has more jobs now than it did before the pandemic.
