Summit County educates about senior safety in campaign this month

The Summit County prosecutor and sheriff are teaming up to for a public awareness campaign about senior citizens’ safety this month.

The campaign will include billboards, bus ads and newspaper ads that can be seen throughout the county.

“Your reaction makes a difference,” the billboards and ads say.

The billboards and ads feature a number people can call with the sheriff’s office to report elder abuse — 330-643-2181 — and provides information on popular scams that target senior citizens and how seniors can avoid becoming victims.

Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh again designated September as Senior Safety Awareness Month.

Scammers and criminals continue to use the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic to target seniors,” Walsh said in a news release. “I want the community to know as much as they can so they can best protect themselves.”
