The New ‘Outriders’ Patch Seems To Have Broken Survivability
Outriders released a major patch yesterday, but many players are noticing that it has tanked their enjoyment of the game for more or less the same reason.
It’s now kind of absurdly hard to survive in higher Challenge Tiers.
To start, yes, there was a bug right when the patch launched where everyone’s armor values dropped, but that was quickly rectified. But the longer people play, the more people realized that their old builds now seem more or less useless.
Some are blaming this on actual bugs, defensive mods or damage reduction or resistance values literally not working. Others are saying this is people coming to terms with the patching of a bugged skill that allowed for a permanent Golem buff (65% damage reduction) that many glass cannon builds were using to stay alive before this patch.
The problem with Outriders is that there’s no real solution here other than just…a blanket buff to player survivability, either by fixing mods and values that aren’t working, or just…a straight buff.
This isn’t about playing tactically. Using cover is bad in gunfights in the first place, but most missions are against creatures in wide open spaces where you literally can kite them and do nothing else. If they hit you once or twice, you die, without proper survivability.
But this isn’t a build issue either. Yes, you can put in more defensive-based mods for survivability, but the game is structured that you need to stack skill/damage mods in order to do the DPS you need to clear Silver and Gold times at higher difficulty tiers. Without those, it’s impossible. And that’s assuming those defensive mods are even working in the first place (which many doubt).
This patch also did not come with any enemy damage reduction buffs at all. None. The only enemy “nerfs” were the fact that you now have slightly more time to dodge sniper shots, and that Crawler AOE attacks now don’t extend beyond their range. But nothing for Alphas, Strix, Breachers, Brood Mothers and a host of other potential one-shotting enemies and their non-stop ability spam. Nothing to adjust the timers of Expeditions to give more leeway for builds that aren’t about pure DPS. Nothing like that at all.
This is a problem. Higher CT tiers are the only place you can reliably farm legendaries in the entire game out side of 10 mission campaign chains that drop gear 8 levels under the cap, at best. But now half the classes in the game can’t survive those tiers at all, and if they build defensively, they can’t possibly hope to clear the timers.
Something has to change because otherwise, it’s more than just players who had their gear wiped that are stuck.
