Three area schools receive grant funding from Dollar General Literacy Foundation

Goodlettsville, Tenn. — Three schools in the region are among those across the state sharing in $75,000 in youth literacy grants, according to an announcement by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

The local schools are:

Gansevoort Elementary School, Rome, $5,000;

Dolgeville Manheim Elementary School, Dolgeville, $1,500; and

Utica Academy of Science, Utica, $2,000.

The grants, distributed to teachers, libraries and nonprofit organizations, aim to support youth literacy programs in the communities Dollar General serves.

Altogether, the grants awarded to New York organizations are expected to positively impact the lives of more than 8,880 residents, the Dollar General Foundation announcement said.

The grants are also part of a collective $4.5 million effort from Dollar General and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation that includes more than $3 million in youth literacy programs…
