A warning has been issued after WhatsApp users fell victim to a convincing scam.
Twitter users have come out in force to warn against the con – which begins with an unsolicited message.
Hackers trying to get into your account prompt it to send a text message with a six-digit verification code, according to a breakdown by The Express.
Then, victims receive a WhatsApp message saying they desperately need the code.
But what victims may not realise is that the code is a key to their own accounts.
When users upgrade their phones, WhatsApp generates a six-digit code to access their past conversations from the cloud.
To verify the identity of the person trying to log into your WhatsApp account, the firm sends a message to the phone it is registered with.
