What the Abilene Reporter-News liked and disliked: Passing the Torch


1. CALF is back. OK, it got hot. But it’s June in West Texas and, well, it did not hail. It’s fun to see Abilene downtown animated again after a pandemic year off. Author-illustrator Loren Long was amazed by the exhibit of his work at the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature, especially the “Otis” wall of art from his first book there. He is being well fed, so his new book project may be “Otis Goes on a Diet.”

2. Torch Awards. Congrats to this year’s three winners, Taylor Telecom, Raydon Inc. and Neomia Banks State Farm Insurance. Each was honored for promoting ethics in the local marketplace. Other finalists were J Ferg Roofing and Foam, Marquez Tree Care, ServiceMaster by A-Town Hi-Tech, Sign Pro of Abilene and Tigé Boats Inc. These business take a bow at the annual awards events June 18.

3. Stephenville baseball. The Yellow Jackets lost to Texarkana Pleasant…
